Persistent Yearning

Grandma Rachel, a Holocaust survivor,
got a job in the 50s at Chicago's
Ida Crown Hebrew Academy
as the cafeteria's cashier,
yearning for the company of
rabbis-teachers, and their students
consuming verses of Torah.
She so missed the learned and
little ones who used to surround
her in Poland, continuing in the
New World to be faithfully
nourished by their spirit.
